Hearts, hearts and more hearts

Just to warn you, today's post is a little longer than usual with three new cards that I have made over the past few days.

A lot of challenges at the moment have the theme of Valentines Day, love, hearts etc, so all the recent cards I have made are of that theme.  I don't have a huge collection of love or heart type stamps, so I have mostly used my Hero Art Ribbon Heart stamp (C2041).

The first card is a rather simple design.

I stamped the cream background card with the Hero Arts envelope stamp. I gold embossed the three hearts with the Hero Arts ribbon heart stamp onto burgundy paper.  I gold embossed an extra heart, cut it out and mounted it on top of the middle one with dimensionals.  I framed the burgundy paper with cream card.  I gold embossed the sentiment and framed it in the same way.

I used heart patterned paper from cre8tiv and cut it into four panels.  I used my scallop punch to create the scalloped edge down the left side of the first panel.  I mounted the four panels onto red card.  I added the white ribbon.  I then used my spellbinders circles and scallop die cuts to make a red circle and white scalloped circle.  I white embossed the two hearts (HA ribbon heart) onto the red circle.  (I did many attempts of embossing this until I was reasonably happy with it, and also after trying two different sized circles – so lots of cut circles and embossing!)  The PP already had the white heart on it, so I cut out other from some of the leftovers and mounted that to the top edge of the circle.

I used some different heart patterned paper from cre8tiv and framed it with red card.  I used my spellbinders circles and scallops die cuts to make a red circle. I added a Penny Black stickeroo to the red circle and framed it with a white scalloped circle.  I white embossed the sentiment onto the PP.

The stamp is Hero Arts Ribbon Heart (C2041) The sentiment is from a basic stamp set from my local stationery shop. I gold embossed three hearts and the sentiment onto burgundy paper.  I mounted this onto purple/plum card  and added the ribbon and gems.  I then mounted this onto cream card. A fairly simple design.

Tiffany Doodles Blog Hop

Note: Edited to include information on how I made the card.

Tiffany Doodles are celebrating their 2nd anniversary with a blog hop.  I enjoyed taking part and seeing so many wonderful creations. The blog hop starts here and runs midnight Sunday 15th January.   (It may be nearly midnight here in New Zealand, but you will still have time in other parts of the world)

Here is a card I made using a Tiffany Doodle image.  It uses the image "candle cake"




I inked my Happy Birthday cuttlebug folder with Impress Ultramarine blue ink using a brayer before I put in the light blue card.  I then put my card through the cuttlebug slowly a couple of time and some of the ink goes onto the embossed image.  I mounted this onto the blue card.  I coloured the candle cake image with copics, cut it out and mounted it with dimensionals.

A CAS bird card

Usually my style consists of cards with lots of layers.  Recently I have seen lots of CAS (clean and simple) cards as people are taking part in the online CAS class.  I saw Sue's post with her lovely bird CAS card which she is entering in the Less is More Week 50 - One layer bird challenge.  I struggle with having lots of white space on the card, but thought I should have ago.  I liked the idea of making something for the Less is More challenge, but the only bird stamp I could find was a very small one.  The stamp is from Inkadinkado clear stamps Garden flower (97616). Hopefully it still counts.  I stamped it many times until I came up with something I was reasonably happy with.  Here are two cards to show you.  The first one I will enter in the challenge.

After looking at some of the other cards in the Less is More challenge, I saw a card featuring an owl.  I suddenly realised that I have some owl stamps from The Craft's Meow so perhaps I will have to try and make another CAS creation.

The CAS online card class still goes for another week and  it can be done at anytime, although I know that doing it now at the same time as others is probably better.  Perhaps I should look at taking part and learn some new techniques for CAS cards.  I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on my two cards.

Two quite different cards

My post today includes two quite different cards.  One is a masculine card and the other a very feminine card.

My first card is one I have made for my father in law's birthday and he is a handy man so I thought I would include some tool stamps which are a set from Kaisercraft, the Construckt Collection.  I have used the colours from Kathy's Lily Pad Palette.  My card is also for  Simon Says Challenge, Spots &/or Stripes challenge.  Initially I planned to use just stripes, but when I was added the tools to my card, I realised that the hammer and paint brush had spots on it too.
I am also entering this in The Crafter's Cafe Challenge - Happy Birthday


I mounted the blue zigzag patterned paper onto grey and then navy card for my background.  I then stamped the tools onto grey card, cut them out and mounted them with dimensionals.  A fairly simple card.

My second card is for the One Stop Craft Challenge #164 - Bingo.  I have used lace/ribbon, diecuts/punches and paper piecing.



I paper pieced the dress which is a digi image from Tiffany Doodles onto the largest label diecut shape I had.  I inked the edge of the die cut to soften the edges.  I stamped with the HA envelope stamp in Impress lilac ink onto pink paper background (which matches the belt on the dress), and mounted this on the blue paper which matches the dress.  I added the ribbon and pink gems. (Sorry the lighting on the card is not the greatest as it was taken at night.  I will try an get a better picture in the morning).

Chipboard Challenge

Lily Pad Cards has a challenge this month to use chipboard in a card.  I am also entering it in the Penny Black and More @ Allsorts January challenge which is Love and Hearts.



I made this for my husband for our 13th wedding anniversary which was on Monday 9th January.  I wanted to use colours that were appropriate for a male so that is why I decided to use brown and neutral colours.  I used the HA envelope stamp for the background and HA heart stamp.  The sentiment is a foam stamp (not sure where it is from).

Patterned Paper

Hi,

Happy New Year!

Well is has been a month since I have added a new post to my blog.  I have missed making cards and creating a post, but it was a busy month for me in December with some full time work for a few weeks and then Christmas.  I still got to make a few cards as I needed them for Christmas, including some pocket cards for gift cards, but I never had time to post them here.

Hopefully now I will be able to get back into regular card making and blog posting again and I am looking forward to that.  This morning was also the first Hero Arts 90 Minute Scramble for 2012 which I enjoy taking part in.  It was a great way to get back into creating cards.  I did make another card the other day for my husband for our wedding anniversary which is tomorrow, but I will post that later, in case he see it here before I have given it to him. 

I enjoy the 90 minute scrambles, but it takes a bit of coordinating as it is at 8am on a Sunday morning here in New Zealand.  I need to get myself organised for the scramble, take part in the scramble, get the kids and myself breakfast and also ready for church for 10am.  If you wish to take part, take a look in the Hero Arts Flickr group.  It is a lot of fun and great to see so many wonderful creations in such a short time.  This morning's challenge was set by Karen and the challenge was to use patterned paper.  I have bought various sheets/packs of patterned paper, but I hardly ever use them, so it was a good opportunity to have a go.

This is what I came up with.

I used the Hero Arts Cling Flower stamps (CG290 Four Flowers). I stamped the flowers onto the patterned paper and cut them out. I also used the same paper for the background. I added some gems and the sentiment to finish off the card.
