The Crafter's Cafe - Embellies with a Twist - Mother's Day

This week at The Crafter's Cafe the Daily Challenge for Monday - Embellies with a Twist - is to make a Mother's Day card.

I have recently enjoyed learning how to make shaped cards after being inspired by the Hero Arts Blog shaped cards technique challenge this month.  You can see some other shaped cards I made here.  Some of which include Hero Arts stamps.

Anyway, back to this week's challenge and here is the card I made for the challenge which is another shaped card since I enjoyed making them so much!





The image is from The Stamping Boutique. I printed it and cut it our using my Spellbinder circles die and sponged the edge with green ink. I coloured the image using copics. I mounted the image onto lime green card that I had cut using the largest classic scalloped circle die. Lastly I added the twine (my embellishment) and the sentiment (computer generated as I don't have any Mother's Day stamps)

Cardstock: Lime green, white and red
Other: Spellbinder classic circles and scallops, The Twinery - red and white twine, Copics.

The Flower Cart

My card today was inspired by the colours of The Play Date Café Challenge (PDCC#128) and is a sample card for one of the freebie challenges at The Crafter’s Café which was part of the Chickie Chat held today.   

At The Crafter's Cafe a free image was provided during the chat.  Members have until 8:00 pm ET on Saturday, April 28 to post their projects.  (Sorry the free image has now been removed, but you may choose to purchase it here, if you would like to enter).  Remember you need to be a member of The Crafter’s Café to take part, but it is free to join. These is also another challenge you may like to take part in.  The April Chat Spring Cleaning Challenge!  For this challenge you need to use something on your project that has been in your stash for over 6 months.

Here is my card:

For this card I printed my image and coloured it with copics and ink.  I didn’t have the right colour pink in my copic range, so I used pen nibs and some pink ink to colour in the image along with my copics.  

I cut the image out using a Spellbinder label die and sponged the edges in pink ink.

For the background, I used the idea I got from Dawn by stamping the sentiment first, then embossing the pink card with the swiss dots embossing folder.  I mounted this on orange card, added the twine and mounted it onto my pink card.  Finally I added the kindy glitz.

Lily Pad Cards April CCC & Colour Palette Challenges

My card today is for Lily Pad Cards and it fits two of their challenges.  The colours I used are from of Kathy's Lily Pad Palatte Challenge

It is also for Lily Pad Cards' April CCC - Card Chain Challenge and I have used their sketch. 

If you have never taken part in their card exchange, then I would encourage you to look out for their exchange next month as the one for April has already ended.  It is a lot of fun sending the card you make to someone (in my case, usually to the other side of the world) and also receiving another one in the mail.  I have been able to get to know some wonderful people through this exchange.

Just one embellishment

Just one embellishment - This is the Monday challenge at The Crafter's Cafe for Embellies With a Twist.



I found this quite hard.  I stamped the  flower and birthday greeting (hopefully they don't count as an embellishment as they are cut out and added to my dry embossed dibackground).  The embellishment on my card is the twine.  I wanted to add other embellishments like gems and things, but this challenge only allowed one.   Perhaps if I did this challenge again, I would stamp directly on the card so it is not so dimensional and so my one embellishment would stand out more.

Shaped Cards

I had fun with the Hero Arts technique challenge for this month which is shaped cards.  I have seen some beautifully made shaped cards from time to time and have thought I should make some, but I didn’t quite understand how to make them.  I enjoyed watching Shari Carroll's technique video and learnt what to do.  The idea of cutting a bit of the bottom off the card at the back to make it stand up straighter is a great idea.  I learnt the hard way that it is better to cut it off before you stick the front and back together, that way you can line up what you are cutting off with the fold at the top of the card and it stands up straight.

My first card was part of the Hero Arts 90 minute scramble.  I used the colours from the photo below.  I got the idea of the circle card from the wreath shape.

This is one of my cards for the 90 minute scramble.  I made another card using the same colours.

Stamps: Branch background

Cardstock: blue, white

Other: pink flowers, gems, Spellbinder scallops and circles (classic one I think)

I enjoyed making it so much, I decided to make two more.  I also showed my 13 year old niece and 5 year old daughter how to do it and they make a card or two each too.

I am entering this last one in the A Blog Named Hero first challenge.  I love these flower stamps and have made lots of cards using them.
I really enjoy using my cuttlebug and so I am entering this in the Simon Says Stamp challenge - Use your favourite tool.

13th birthday card

This is my second post for the day.  Just a quick one.  Click here to see my other post for the day.

Here is a card I made for my niece's 13th birthday.  She enjoys baking so I chose this image.



The image is from Stamping Boutique coloured with copics, but I have also used one of my favourite Hero Arts stamps - the envelope stamp.  Such a great background stamp.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter.

Over at The Crafter's Cafe last month they have started some new daily challenges.

As a member of the Events Design Team I am here to support these new challenges.  Julia is responsible for the Monday - Embellies with a twist challenge.  I enjoy using embellishments so I am endeavouring to support her with his challenge and made a card each week.

The challenge for Monday of this week was Embellies with a twist with an Easter theme.  This challenge will run until Sunday April 8^st , 2012 at 8: 00 PM, Atlantic Time Zone.  Sorry, not much time left to take part this week, but remember there will be a new challenge next week!

Remember it can be any kind of creation (eg. cards, scrap layouts, fat book pages, artist trading cards, tags, boxes, bags, 3D ~ Altered Art or any other crafting projects that have some form of paper on them).
