Hero Arts 90 Minute Scramble and Other Challenges

I enjoy taking part in the Hero Arts 90 Minute Scramble challenge if I can.  There is usually a scramble every couple of weeks.  I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to take part this time as we have had lots of trouble with our home internet which hasn't been working for the past few days.  Anyway, I figured out how to upload a photo from my phone, so I could take part this morning at 6am.   Our internet provider is working on the problem and it should be resolved in the next week.  Until then I can use it sometimes, but then for no reason we lose our connection again.  This will keep happening until it is properly fixed. (Like while I was writing this post, it stopped working again! Stared writing this yesterday and finishing it today.)

Anyway, back to the scramble.  The challenge, hosted by Lucille, was to make a card which used patterned paper and put something over the edge.  We had 90 minutes to make our creation and upload it.  I sometimes get two cards made, but with the challenges of using my phone instead of my camera and computer, it all took a bit longer.

Here is the first card I made.  This card is a little different from what I usually make as it is a bit larger (Approximately 6” x 8’).  This is a birthday card I wanted to make for a friend from church which many of us will sign, so the bigger card allows for more room for us all write her our own birthday message.

90 minute scramble
(Sorry not such a clear photo as taken with my phone - I will try and upload a clearer one tomorrow)

I stamped the branch background stamp using shabby shutters distress ink and mounted this on lime green card.  I had to stamp it twice to fit on the larger sized card.  I stamped my flower stamp onto pink and blue patterned paper and cut them out.  I added these to my card with some gems in the centre of the flowers and on the top right of the card. Finally I stamped Happy Birthday on the banner which I put "over the edge".  Something I usually don't do, so it good to be challenged and try something new.

Supplies:
Stamps: Branch background CG122, 4 flowers CG290,
Ink: Versafine black ink, Shabby shutter (green) distress ink
Cardstock: white, lime green,
Other: Patterned paper, pink gems,

I started on a second card (also a larger sized one), although I knew I wouldn't finish it in time, but I needed a second larger birthday card for a friend for many of us to sign, so I was inspired by using the patterned paper aspect of the challenge, although in this second card, I didn't put anything "over the edge".

Three flowers

For the background I used the dry embossed floral screen folder (also done twice as it is a larger piece of card).  This time I used pink and yellow patterned paper for my flowers and I added kindy glitz in the middle.  I added some pink and white twine and a Happy Birthday banner (this time, not over the edge).  I framed the banner and cuttlebug background in pink card.

Supplies:
Stamps: Hero Arts 4 flowers CG290,
Ink: Versafine black ink,
Cardstock: white, baby pink, lime green
Other: Patterned paper (Crea8tiv), pink gems, Cuttlebug floral screen embossing folder, The Twinery pink and white twine, Kindy Glitz.

This second card is also a sample card for The Crafter's Cafe Monday Embellies with a Twist Card - The theme is Anything Goes. Remember to come and join as at the Crafter's Cafe for any of our Daily Challenges.

The Crafter's Cafe - Embellies with a Twist - Mother's Day

This week at The Crafter's Cafe the Daily Challenge for Monday - Embellies with a Twist - is to make a Mother's Day card.

I have recently enjoyed learning how to make shaped cards after being inspired by the Hero Arts Blog shaped cards technique challenge this month.  You can see some other shaped cards I made here.  Some of which include Hero Arts stamps.

Anyway, back to this week's challenge and here is the card I made for the challenge which is another shaped card since I enjoyed making them so much!

Mother's Day card

The image is from The Stamping Boutique. I printed it and cut it our using my Spellbinder circles die and sponged the edge with green ink. I coloured the image using copics. I mounted the image onto lime green card that I had cut using the largest classic scalloped circle die. Lastly I added the twine (my embellishment) and the sentiment (computer generated as I don't have any Mother's Day stamps)

Supplies:
Image: The Stamping Boutique - Tulips
Ink: Green (Tea leaves, I think from memory)
Cardstock: Lime green, white and red
Other: Spellbinder classic circles and scallops, The Twinery - red and white twine, Copics.

I would encourage you to take part in this challenge.  It is a lot of fun and there is also some candy up for grabs for anyone who has entered in our Monday challenges.  All entries from the first challenge till this Sunday29th April will have a chance to win the candy, and Mr. Random will choose a winner.  So if you haven't yet joined us for an "Embellies with a Twist" challenge, please join us and you will have a chance to win this wonderful candy.

Have a great rest of the week.

My card today was inspired by the colours of The Play Date Café Challenge (PDCC#128) and is a sample card for one of the freebie challenges at The Crafter’s Café which was part of the Chickie Chat held today.

At The Crafter's Cafe a free image was provided during the chat.  Members have until 8:00 pm ET on Saturday, April 28 to post their projects.  (Sorry the free image has now been removed, but you may choose to purchase it here, if you would like to enter).  Remember you need to be a member of The Crafter’s Café to take part, but it is free to join. Here is my card:

Flower Cart

For this card I printed my image and coloured it with copics and ink.  I didn’t have the right colour pink in my copic range, so I used pen nibs and some pink ink to colour in the image along with my copics.
I cut the image out using a Spellbinder label die and sponged the edges in pink ink.

For the background, I used the idea I got from Dawn by stamping the sentiment first, then embossing the pink card with the swiss dots embossing folder.  I mounted this on orange card, added the twine and mounted it onto my pink card.  Finally I added the kindy glitz.

Supplies:
Ink: Versafine black ink, hot pink ink (sorry not sure what brand or exact colour as the label has come off)
Stamps: HA happy birthday greeting
Digi image:  The Stamping Boutique -Flower cart
Cardstock: Hot pink, orange and white
Other:  Cuttlebug swiss dots embossing folder, Spellbinder Labels 4 (largest die), Copics YR07 & E37, The Twinery orange and white twine, Kindy Glitz

I am also entering this in the April Die Cut Diva Challenge - Embossed challenge.  To use embossing and a die cut in a card.

Take care,
Angela

My card today is for Lily Pad Cards and it fits two of their challenges.  The colours I used are from of Kathy's Lily Pad Palatte Challenge

It is also for Lily Pad Cards' April CCC - Card Chain Challenge and I have used their sketch.

Here is my card.

Just one embellishment

Just one embellishment - This is the Monday challenge at The Crafter's Cafe for Embellies With a Twist.

IMG_2211

I found this quite hard.  I stamped the  flower and birthday greeting (hopefully they don't count as an embellishment as they are cut out and added to my dry embossed dibackground).  The embellishment on my card is the twine.  I wanted to add other embellishments like gems and things, but this challenge only allowed one.   Perhaps if I did this challenge again, I would stamp directly on the card so it is not so dimensional and so my one embellishment would stand out more.

Supplies:
Ink: Black Versafine
Stamps: HA 4 flowers (smallest flower) CG290. HA Happy Birthday C5594
Cardstock: white, lime green and blue
Other: Cuttlebug d’vine swirl folder, pink and white twine,

Take care,
Angela

Shaped Cards

I had fun with the Hero Arts technique challenge for this month which is shaped cards.  I have seen some beautifully made shaped cards from time to time and have thought I should make some, but I didn’t quite understand how to make them.  I enjoyed watching Shari Carroll's technique video and learnt what to do.  The idea of cutting a bit of the bottom off the card at the back to make it stand up straighter is a great idea.  I learnt the hard way that it is better to cut it off before you stick the front and back together, that way you can line up what you are cutting off with the fold at the top of the card and it stands up straight.

My first card was part of the Hero Arts 90 minute scramble.  I used the colours from the photo below.  I got the idea of the circle card from the wreath shape.

This is one of my cards for the 90 minute scramble.  I made another card using the same colours.

Blue, green and pink shaped card

Supplies
Ink: Distress ink, Versafine black
Stamps: Branch background
Cardstock: blue, white
Other: pink flowers, gems, Spellbinder scallops and circles (classic one I think)
I enjoyed making it so much, I decided to make two more.  I also showed my 13 year old niece and 5 year old daughter how to do it and they make a card or two each too.

My second card:
Blue shaped card

Supplies
Ink: Ultramarine impress ink,
Stamps: Swirl stamp
Cardstock: Dark blue and light blue
Other: White and blue flowers, pearls, Spellbinder scallops and circles (classic one I think)

My third card:
Pink and purple shaped card

Supplies
Ink: Lilac impress ink, Archival Brilliance Aurora (just used the pink),
Stamps: Ha 4 flowers (smallest flower) CG290. HA Happy Birthday C5594
Cardstock: Purple and lilac
Other: Cuttlebug d’vine swirl folder, pearl, Spellbinder scallops and circles (classic one I think), butterfly punch

I am entering this last one in the A Blog Named Hero first challenge.  I love these flower stamps and have made lots of cards using them.
I really enjoy using my cuttlebug and so I am entering this in the Simon Says Stamp challenge - Use your favourite tool.

Thanks so much for dropping by and for your comments.
